Have you graduated with a degree in medicine in your own country, and would you like to work as a doctor in the Netherlands? Then this course is suitable for you. The course focuses on the communication between doctor and patient. You will learn medical vocabulary from various specialisms and practise different aspects of a conversation, such as providing information, asking questions, giving advice, offering reassurance, explaining, and persuading.
Who is this course for?
This course is for non-native doctors. During the course, we work towards the upper-intermediate CEFR level between B2 and C1.
Plan a consultation A consultation is mandatory for enrolling in this course. During the consultation, we will assess whether your current level of Dutch proficiency and your expectations align with the course. Contact Margaret van der Kamp by email to schedule a consultation. Please include a copy of your NT2 II State Examination certificate with this application.
What will you learn in this course?
The course consists of 10 lessons of three contact hours each, during which the following topics will be covered:
Terminology from different specialisms, including neurology, gynaecology, general practice
Giving instructions to patients
Discussing diagnoses and treatment options with patients
Commonly used expressions in medical contexts
How many hours of independent study are required?
You should expect to spend a total of 60 hours on independent study in order to stay on track with the course. During self-study, you will spend your time learning vocabulary, reading texts, listening to conversations, doing exercises, and writing reports.

Conduct doctor-patient interviews
Ask patients appropriate and correct questions
Understand patients well
Explain medical matters to patients using appropriate vocabulary
